Stadsarchief Amsterdam has taken a valuable step in modernising its visitor facilities. In collaboration with Nextlox, intelligent lockers were recently installed, enhancing visitor convenience while fitting in with the monumental look of the building.
The Stadsarchief Amsterdam manages 750 years of city history and preserves millions of documents, photos and films. From their monumental building on Vijzelstraat, they welcome thousands of visitors every year who want to discover the capital's rich past.
The Stadsarchief Amsterdam tells 750 years of history of Amsterdam, Weesp, Amstelveen, Ouder-Amstel and Diemen. The archive is located in the former headquarters of the Nederlandsche Handelsmaatschappij and later the ABN AMRO. Exhibitions are now held in this former bank vault and the original interior, finished in yellow, green and black, is still visible.
Anyone who steps into the building immediately feels the city's rich history. Not surprisingly, the Stadsarchief attracts many visitors, from researchers and students to tourists looking to discover Amsterdam's hidden stories.
To best facilitate visitors, the City Archive wanted to install a user-friendly and secure locker system. Visitors need to be able to store their personal belongings so that they can fully focus on their research or museum visit. Nextlox's new lockers provide the ideal solution.
The intelligent lockers work very simply with a user-friendly interface. Visitors can use a locker for free by entering a self-selected PIN code or scanning any card, such as a public transport chip card. When leaving, the user opens the locker with the same code or pass. This prevents lost keys or cards and reduces the pressure on the counter.
In addition, the system guarantees maximum security: only the user himself can access the locker. For the archive, this not only means more convenience for visitors, but also more efficient management and more peace of mind in daily operations.
The cooperation between the Stadsarchief Amsterdam and Nextlox was smooth and constructive. Nextlox not only supplied the intelligent lockers, but also actively thought along with the integration with the historical environment. For instance, the Stadsarchief wanted the locker doors to match the colours of the Treasury. By making locker doors yellow, green and black, there is a subtle reference to the characteristic tile patterns. The locker system thus forms a modern addition that blends seamlessly with the historical ambience of the building.
